High-Five Friday! Earlier in the week I designed this poster for an internal Kraft Foods meeting. The idea was to make a design for the meeting that had a retro approach. They passed on this concept, but choose another design that was inspired by a beer label. I will post it later once the meeting has happened.
Well, as many of you know, my oldest boy is turning two next month. So here is the design for the invitation. Just like any other designer I know, we somehow feel the need to always design our own invitations and announcements; however, once we are committed and have denied our spouses to buy them anywhere else (namely Tiny Prints, even though I have heard great things), it seems these projects always take longer than estimated to complete. Anytime you take on a project for your wife, it appears that your #11 blades are all dull, the printer is out of ink, you can’t find that specific paper you are wanting, and CS needs to be updated. So worth it though.
Earlier this month, I was emailed by a nice woman named Emily. She had come across my site and really wanted to use some of the mustache posters for her son’s third birthday party. Since I am not currently set up for people to buy my posters, I sent her some print quality files in return for some pictures of the posters up at the party. She kept her end of the bargain and I have to mention she took some good shots. Check it out. Enjoy the staches :{)
At the end of last year, I designed several in-store pieces, such as a poster, shelf dangler, door cling, counter card, and shipper display. The typography treatment was inspired from the look of those old hand painted soda crates. The “farmer’s market” approach just made sense with the slow roasted characteristics of the Planters Flavor Grove product.
Here is a logo that I have been working on for the Lone Star Jeep Club. As you probably know, I am a Jeep enthusiast. I haven’t joined this club yet, but I am hoping I can trade this new logo for a free membership. Let me know if you think this needs something else to be finished. I want to add texture to it eventually, but right now I am focusing on the form and color.
Here is a logo I have been working on for the infamous Pinewood Derby League Grand Prix of 1974 that was held in Texas. If I had only sanded my car a touch more, I could have won.
A client of mine just opened a new dental practice in a small town called Madill in Oklahoma. He wanted the identity to have a vintage feel because the office is located in the historic downtown area. I feel that the classic look of this mark will be a nice contrast to most modern day dental logos with illustrations of teeth and aqua color palettes. Above is the final logo. Below I have included 3 of my initial directions.
I recently finished designing a logo for a new Austin restaurant: taste717. The restaurant defines itself as “upscale American”. Even though the restaurant will have the amenities of a sports bar, taste717 will specialize in fine food and a modern atmosphere.
You might recognize the brand font for taste717, Gotham. For the true type nerds like myself, Gotham is an American font and taste 717 is an American food restaurant. Plus, Gotham’s neutral design style worked well with the “taste” script, which is a font called Radio. I modified the “s” in “taste” to be a custom character, as the original was too quirky.
To help keep the usage of the logo consistent, I also put together a Brand Guidelines for taste717. This is a service I now recommend to all of my clients requesting a logo.
